Modern Approach to Technical Training Philipp Born & Tobias Vogt German Sports University Cologne, Institute of Professional Sport Education and Sport Qualifications In this practical lecture a modern approach to technical training will be presented. The first part is all about additional coordinative task. The second part focuses on the automation of stroke patterns. 1. Coordinative tasks as additional impulse in technical training The training of the coordination skills plays a big role in the technical training of high performance players. By using additional tasks and by playing under certain pressure conditions the existing stroke techniques are being made more variable and more stable. Different drills and exercises with additional tasks and obstacles (e.g. a additional net) will be shown and explained. During these exercises the players will always be under some kind of pressure: either time pressure, precision pressure or room pressure. 2. Automation of stroke patterns Stroke patterns are becoming more and more important in todays high performance tennis. These patterns should be practiced and automated early, systematically and long term. Like every stroke technique stroke patterns should be stable and variable under pressure. Examples of stroke-pattern-drills will be demonstrated and it will be shown how those can be automated.
