Sport for all Genders and Sexualities

Projekt-Details

Forschungsziel

The project "Sport for all Genders and Sexualities - Tackling Sexism, Trans- and Homophobia in European Grassroots Sport” (SGS) is aiming at establishing an inclusive sport culture open to all genders and sexualities.
European sport is still dominated by masculine values, stereotypical gender perceptions and the strict separation in “men” and “women”. This dominant binary and masculine narrative in sport contributes to discrimination and exclusion of women/girls (sexism), transgender (transphobia) and LGB (Lesbians, Gays, Bisexual) people (homophobia) as well as all of those, who do not (want to) fit to a specific masculinity. The overall objective of the project is to enhance the inclusion and participation of all genders and sexualities in European
grassroots sport. This requires an understanding of how athletes are still excluded from sport because of a ruling binary gender norm. Hence, open and structural sexism, trans- and homophobia are results of these norms.
Together with relevant stakeholders from organized grassroots sport, SGS develops measures and methods, including institutional dialogue, guidelines, awareness raising campaigning and training to tackle these discriminations and diminish barriers for transgender athletes, LGB people and women.
These actions will increase the level of sport participation and establish a sport culture open to all genders and sexualities.
The project will create an empirical base through action-oriented research and identifying best practice (Work Package 2). Work Package 3 will see the development of guidelines, training methods, an awareness raising campaign and institutionalizes dialogue with stakeholders from organized sport and LGBT experts In Work Package 4 the developed measures will be implemented in national pilot actions in the five partner countries. Finally, the produced outcomes and gained experience and knowledge will be disseminated and shared for future and sustainable use (Work Package 5).
