N2 - Ankle sprain represents one of the most common soft tissue injuries; the annual incidence of those admitted to the emergency department (ED) with a sprained ankle ranged from 50 to 61 per 10,000 in the United Kingdom, while a US study found an incidence rate in EDs of 21.5 per 10,000 individuals per year.3,17 The actual incidence is estimated to be much higher than this; many cases do not present for medical care, as the nature of uncomplicated ankle sprain is that it is a self-limiting condition.
