Abstract

This editorial describes the study of judgment and decision making (JDM) as comprised of three major approaches: decision- and game-theoretical, psychological, and social-psychological/sociological. The main focus of decision-making research lies in the understanding of choices between a set of options. The broad distinction between judgments and decision-making will be used to map the articles presented in this volume. This editorial also serves as an introduction to the articles that follow, covering topics such as economic theoretical background, biases in social judgments, conformity among judges, cognitive processes in the selection of fast motor responses, adaptive behavior in decision-making, "decision field theory" applied to the choices of athletes, decision-making models from an ecological dynamics approach, and implicit motor learning applied to movement execution.
