Abstract

Regular establishing, estimation and correction of sports preparedness of athletes is of the greatest importance for the results in all stages of sports training. It is the essence of planning and control of overall sports training. It should be noted that childhood and adolescence is one of the most complicated stages in human development. The developing body of the child is different from that of grown-ups from the functional aspects. This fact should be taken into consideration in striving for high sports results. The aim of the study was to establish and estimate the changes in special physical fitness of young hockey players. The following methods of research were applied: 1. Analysis of special literature on the subject. 2. Testing. 3. Mathematical statistics (arithmetical mean, percentage of absolute and relative changes, significance of difference in mean value according to Students criterion of estimation (n = 17). 4. Comparative analysis. Players of the Kaunas Children Hockey Team aged 13-15 years were studied: the first research was carried out in the year 2003, the second research in 2004 and the third research in September/October 2005. Tests of special physical fitness and the best result were performed. The tests for special physical fitness were performed three times and the best result was counted. The tests were as follows: 30 m standing skating, 10 m and 20 m standing skating, 20 m run skating and reverse skating, manoeuvre skating without a puck and driving the puck. The speed of performing technique actions of skating and driving the puck according to a test recommended by Russian scientists. The comparison of the results of this test with results of an analogous test has revealed the results of these technique actions of our hockey players to be lower. In generalizing the results of the study performed it could be asserted that throughout the period of research (the years 2003-2005) the greatest improvement has been registered in the property of special speed (manoeuvre skating without a puck and driving the puck), i. E. 9.3% and 11.2% accordingly (p <0.001). A considerable improvement in the results has also been registered in performing 30 m standing skating test that had improved by 6.5% (p <0.001). In estimating an increase in research results according to the methods recommended by Russian scientists (1983) a good increase in the results is considered that of 10-12% achieved in the course of a macrocycle.
