Research profile

The Institute of Outdoor Sports and Environmental Science engages in research, teaching and practice with the movement possibilities in nature and landscape.

The focus is on the complex interactions between everyday, touristic and performance-oriented sports practice, society and the occupied space. Interdisciplinarity and holism are thus fundamental part in thought and action as well as in teaching at the Institute for Nature Sports and ecology.

Overall, the institution is exercising a teaching position in more than 25 disciplines of outdoor sports and also offers deals in the university continuing education of the German Sport University, as well as the additional qualification "Sport and Environmental Management". Since the winter semester 2008/09, the Institute directs and coordinates the interdisciplinary Master's program "Sport Tourism and Destination Management." Furthermore, flows important core competencies of the institute in the Bachelor study program as well as in the teacher training degree courses.

The close links between research, practice and teaching provides the best conditions to include the latest developments on the pulse of time and operate an innovative research for the modern practice. Feedback from practice to theory, especially from the Institute's research projects enrich the teaching to advanced approaches and provides the competence in scientific thinking and application-oriented work.
