Research profile

Our research focuses on teaching and education in swimming and aquatic education.
Our primary objective is to ensure effective knowledge transfer through high-quality eduacation. This includes in-depth investigations of didactic and methodological aspects across various swimming and aquatic contexts—ranging from school-based and extracurricular programs to learn-to-swim settings and competitive swimming.

A key area of our research centers on the qualification of educators for teaching in aquatic environments.
We explore the competencies and knowledge teachers require to successfully deliver (foundational) swimming education and aquatic literacy across diverse settings and age groups.

In addition, we examine long-term athletic development in (competitive) swimming.
This involves detailed analyses of career trajectories, developmental pathways, and performance patterns, taking into account influencing factors such as the relative age effect and the age of sport initiation. Our research is highly practice-oriented and contributes directly to the education and training of coaches and teachers in swimming.

We warmly welcome you to our research community—dedicated to enhancing aquatic competence and shaping the future of swim instruction and sport.
