Temporal and spatial representations from an Embodied Cognition perspective
From an Embodied Cognition perspective abstract conceptual knowledge such as mental representations of time and space are at least partially grounded in sensorimotor experiences. If true, then the execution of whole-body movements should result in modulations of temporal and spatial representations. To scrutinize this hypothesis, we are conducting behavioral studies, in which examined the impact of on-line whole-body movements on temporal and spatial representations and vice versa.
The development of abstract concepts across the lifespan
Embodied Cognition accounts state that sensorimotor experience form our concepts in a substantial way. How do concepts emerge that are not directly perceivable with our sensorimotor system, e.g., concepts of time? To answer this research question I investigate how movements modulate the development of temporal concepts in children.
