Working memory in sports

Project details

Research objective

The central task of the working memory is the controlled information processing and thus the flexible adaption of behavior and requirements of the present situation. The working memory is connected with numerous sport-psychologically relevant subjects - anticipation, perception, attention, decision making, skill execution, choking under pressure … However, a systematic discussion of this central psychological construct is still missing in the field of sport psychology. This gap is dealt with in this project. Specifically, this project is about the connection between the contents of the working memory and their consequences on attention direction of athletes. Another focal point within this project is inter-individual differences in the capacity of working memory and the attention control of athletes and the meaning for the game.
