Dissertation: Musculoskeletal Loading in Cycling

Research objective

My dissertation project deals with the quantification and classification of musculoskeletal stress in cycling. In particular, the focus here is on knee joint mechanics in patients with knee osteoarthritis.
The following aspects are being addressed:
- Development, calibration, and validation of instrumented bicycle pedals with three-dimensional force measurement
- Integration of pedal force measurement into the motion capture environment
- Integration of pedal force measurement into musculoskeletal inverse dynamic modeling in OpenSim
- Conducting a test subject study to quantify knee stress accumulation during cycling, walking, and running
