Project details

Research objective

For the first time, an environmental and sustainability concept has been drawn up that includes all the important fields of action - from resource and energy consumption, catering and merchandising to education and regional development. An environmental screening collected nature conservation data from all competition sites, analysed existing and planned transport infrastructure and laid the foundations for "climate-neutral" Winter Games. All the committees and institutions involved thus highlighted the importance of environmental protection and sustainability as binding components of the bidding and implementation of Winter Games. Even if the contract for the 2018 Games was not awarded to Munich - the environmental and sustainability concept sets standards and is a reference for future applications.
