Baseline study on recreational rowing

Research objective

Recreational rowing is a tourist activity that has not yet been adequately analysed scientifically. A nationally representative baseline study, founded within a broad and reliable database, has yet to be conducted. The following research questions are therefore being investigated within the project:
- What are the natural preferences of recreational rowers?
- What are the infrastructural requirements placed on the area of movement by recreational rowers?
- Which waters are used intensively and what characterises them?
- What is the socio-demographic make-up of the group?
- What is their travel behaviour?

Research method

A user-orientated approach with the following qualitative and quantitative methods was chosen to answer the research questions:
The research employed a variety of methods, including an open survey, visitor-employed photography, an online survey, and the analysis of spatial data using GIS.
