Project details

Research objective

The investigation and testing of interval loads. Most sport disciplines, especially game sports but also endurance sports, are characterized by varying exercise intensities during a match or race. One can speculate that this interval load requires specific physiological prerequisites. However, this interval character is not considered and tested in established performance tests and little is known about physiological reactions to sport specific intervals.

Research method

A newly developed treadmill now allows us to reproduce sport specific interval-loads and to investigate the physiological reactions under laboratory conditions. Real (velocity-) data from tracking systems can be uploaded and reproduced by the treadmill. In a first study velocity profiles of real elite football matches are investigated.
