As part of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2021 Oberstdorf / Allgäu, the Nordic ski facilities at the Oberstdorf training base will be upgraded to the latest technical standards through a series of conversions, renovations and expansions.
Not only in the planning and execution of a major sporting event such as the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2021 Oberstdorf / Allgäu, but also in the construction of the necessary sports facilities, it is important to adhere to the goal of preserving the natural environment of the Allgäu as a habitat. It is therefore necessary to ensure that the preparation, development and implementation of the World Championships are sustainable from the outset. To this end, guiding principles and guidelines have been drawn up as part of a sustainability strategy. Of course, these guidelines are also very important for the construction work and have been taken into account in the planning.
In order to support the organisers in all questions and decisions, an "Environment and Sustainability Committee" has been set up. This is made up of representatives from environmental organisations, landowners, the German Ski Association, the Oberstdorf Ski Club, the Oberstdorf Town Council and experts in sports ecology.
