Abstract

This study aims at analyzing the difference between the pre-viewing importance factors and post-viewing satisfaction levels of performance components by applying the importance-performance analysis (IPA) technique. In order to achieve it, 198 attendants of Muju Taekwondowon's 'The Chunhyang' performance in 2018 were sampled using the convenience sampling method based on the questionnaire used in previous studies. This study conducted frequency analysis, a content validity analysis, reliability analysis and paired t-test, and then the mean of importance and satisfaction were calculated and analyzed using IPA matrix. Firstly, satisfaction was somewhat higher than importance as a result of comparing overall mean between the pre-viewing importance and post-viewing satisfaction. Secondly, satisfaction was statistically significantly higher than importance in terms of seating, venue capacity, actor and facility. Thirdly, as a result of the IPA, the I quadrant contained story, music, choreography, make-up/costumes, sound and lighting, While III quadrant included actor, video and facility. Also, IV quadrant contained venue capacity and seating. Considering the results, attendants perceived that direction-related factors were generally important, and their satisfaction was also high. Moreover, the attendants were considered the direction-related factors as relatively more important than the physical conditions of the venue. Thus, stage equipment and direction-related factors which can fully express the dynamic choreography and skills of Taekwondo should usually be maintained at a high standard to increase the degree of completion of the Taekwondo performance.
