Abstract
Sport and physical activity have beneficial health effects and can help fight type 2 diabetes and secondary diseases. By analyzing data from approaches used in the field of “omics” research and from new biosensors, the complexity of the impacts of sport and exercise is becoming increasingly clear. The effects are evident in all organ systems. The positive influence of an active lifestyle on the health of offspring, mediated by epigenetic modifications, has already been demonstrated. Various barriers must be overcome to successfully implement a training program. Its feasibility and its acceptance must be taken into account. The physician and diabetes team can give patients important impulses.
