Abstract

Measures to prevent violence are important aspects in reducing interindividual violence. At different levels, they serve to (a) prevent the occurrence of violence, (b) to deal with violence when it is imminent or has already occurred, and (c) to prevent a recurrence of violent acts. Evaluations of established training programs for the prevention of violence suggest that there are partly reductionist perspectives on content and training pedagogies. The current paper introduces the concept of complex violence prevention and focuses on complexity as an essential component of the application and training situation. The complexity of violence prevention is mapped on several dimensions and levels guided by theory, on the basis of which violence prevention training courses can be reflected. In this way, the concept of complex violence prevention makes a contribution to a reflective praxis in the corresponding training settings.
