Abstract

Tic disorders such as Tourette's syndrome are among the rare but severe neuropsychiatric disorders that mostly affect children and adolescents. This paper describes the state of research of multidisciplinary treatment methods, especially psychotherapy, for the treatment of tic disorders and derives a feasibility of the treatment knowledge in the horse-assisted setting via hypothesis generation. The horse-assisted treatment approach developed on the basis of this research is theoretically justified and presented in detail with concrete practical examples. Parallels to the evidence-based treatment method - Habit Reversal Training - and clinical exercise therapy for mental illness are discussed.
