Abstract
In this comprehensive literature work, the author takes a look at the most significant influences of the political systems between 1850 and 1941 on the general development of sports. The influence of occupation, wars, religions and nationalism is also elaborated. Of particular interest are the legal regulations, the extent of which was not previously known. The social spheres of schooling and associations were the focus of the study. The period of Ottoman rule was characterized by largely feudal structures without any serious interest in sports development. The occupation of the country by the Austro-Hungarian monarchy led to fundamental political, economic and cultural changes. Physical education became a compulsory subject in schools and was regulated by law. The history of the modern club system began with the founding of a cycling club in Mostar in 1887. Economic and socio-political circumstances worsened due to the integration into the Kingdom of SHS or Kingdom of Yugoslavia. The ethnic-national relations became even more complex. The internal political position of the country within the common Yugoslav state changed several times in a little more than two decades, which also greatly influenced the development of sports. However, the establishment of an independent Ministry of Sport in 1932 clearly proves the enormous increase of the state's interest in sport. The introduction of compulsory physical education and the establishment of the first sports university support this thesis.
Bosnia and Herzegovina is an example of how political systems changed in a relatively short period of time and how these changes also influenced the development of sports. Each system brought its own educational principles to implement the respective social values and ideas.
