The increase in average lifespan across the world has been accompanied by an unprecedented upsurge in the occurrence of dementia with high socio-economic costs. The development of personal health systems provides a means of dealing with
such problems in a meaningful and sustainable manner, enabling persons with dementia to maintain independence and inclusion in society, while improving their quality of life and the effectiveness of their caregivers.
Some key challenges in dementia care are to assist the person to maintain its mobility and stimulate physical exercise as well as sustain communication and connection to family, caregivers and the environment through a personalized and customizable program. These challenges require first to be able to monitor and evaluate the patient activities and physical/ cognitive status and then to propose an appropriate coaching/assistance.
The PReserve project objective is to design an assistive ecosystem that will provide innovative means to assess the frailty of elderly, sustain elderly to live longer and safer in their preferred environment and improve the quality of life of end-users and
their care givers through a personnalized coaching.
The PReserve project is based on the following pillars:
- a better understanding of the adequacy to the user's needs, acceptability, feasibility and usability of assistance robotics;
- the sensory instrumentation of the 3 elements of the ecosystem (end-user, robot, environment);
- an user-centered adaptive monitoring and coaching intervention tool through robotics;
- an integration of the sensory instrumentation, its processing and the coaching tool in two commercially available companion robots.
The project will in depth analyze the intrinsic and extrinsic socio-economic drivers for the different identified markets to design a penetration strategy. Multidisciplinary skills are necessary at this stage so a Stakeholder Committee will assist the
consortium over the duration of the project.
