The Establishment of a Scientific Network to Support the Olympic Anti-Doping Fight

Project details

Research objective

The research project “The establishment of a scientific network to support the Olympic anti-doping fight,” undertaken by Dr. Jörg Krieger under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Stephan Wassong, aimed to add a new perspective to the historical analysis of anti-doping in the Olympic Movement. It took the historical evolution of scientific institutional networks as a starting point and discussed their influence on anti-doping politics. A particular focus was on the scientific developments within drug testing and the role of the IOC Medical Commission´s Subcommission on “Doping and Biochemistry” and the IAAF Medical Committee. It enabled an analysis of how scientific knowledge shaped the decision-making processes of anti-doping policies in the sport organisations.
