German sports federations are traditionally characterised by voluntary working ex-ecutive committees. But for some years, an increasing influence and decision-making competence of full-time managers can be observed. However, a scientific analysis of these “new” personnel structures and actors in sports organisations is still lacking. Likewise, the question of gender-equitable participation in this crucial personnel area remains empirically unanswered. Consequently, the project uses a multi-perspective theoretical framework of professionalisation, career, and gender research approaches and a mixed-method research design implementing a ques-tionnaire and an interview study to answer the following questions: 1. What are the characteristics of full-time personnel structures and manager careers in organised sport? 2. Is gender an essential category in the full-time personnel structures and manager careers in organised sport? How can gendered processes and structures be described and explained?
